We were shrouded in fog all day, and it was a tad chilly, but at least the rain stayed away! 2 days before Arundel’s 2024 Winter Open we had a full house of 32 teams with 6 teams on the waiting list. Unfortunately, many teams and individuals had to drop out due to health issues, so with the waiting list used up and some team rearrangement, we ended up with 30 teams. Naturally, this meant changing the format and re-doing all the paperwork the day before. Hey-ho! The joys of being an organiser!

 

Anyway, we had timed games in the morning with 6 leagues of 4 and 1 of 5 (one team dropped out on the day.) The morning games ran on time, and we were able to start the afternoon knockout stage by 1.15pm.

 

League winners and the next best one went through to the Gold level, the next 8 went into the Silver, the next 8 into the Bronze with consolages at each level. The remaining teams went into a 3-game Spoon Snake.

 

The afternoon ran smoothly with most levels playing their finals at the same time, which is always a bonus!

We welcomed teams from as far away as Wales, Peterborough and the far reaches of Kent as well as a fair sprinkling of SCPA clubs and players from the London Region. It was good to see players from novice standard  to international representatives all playing alongside each other, with prizes at all levels to reflect this.
